just watched the pilot…and damn was it bad. what is it with t.v. shows nowadays that they have to rush to establish everyone’s character archetype all in one heavy-handed gesture? she’s the tough single mother! can’t you tell? she works long hours and can’t always be with her rebellious and naive son who will learn his lesson come the end of the story, but she cares! all of this information should be understood in the span of a single conversation and left to simmer in the back of your brain for the duration, because you’re not smart enough to consider what a character’s motives might be otherwise. and never mind the overbearing political messages (COMMUNIST ALIENS PROMISE HOPE AND PEACE, UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENT, COURT THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND EVENTUALLY EAT YOU AND TAKE YOUR STUFF). I will say Morena Baccarin is a standout, however. she makes for a great alien Barack Obama and is absolutely beautiful.
